Before you load the firewood, check the rules for your destination. Arizona’s campfire restrictions vary by park and land manager, and having a fire ring at your campsite doesn’t automatically mean you can use it.
At Lost Dutchman State Park, Stage II restrictions remain in place through October 31. Picacho Peak State Park also lists Stage II restrictions. Wood and charcoal fires are prohibited, including in developed campgrounds. The state parks guidance allows gas or propane stoves for cooking meals, subject to its clearance requirements. Maricopa County’s regional parks remain under their annual fire ban through September 30, with an extension possible. Campfires, fire pits and charcoal grills are prohibited. Gas and propane grills are allowed in designated areas, including developed and partially developed campsites. Read the county’s fire ban notice.
These are a few popular destinations, so check your specific campground or forest before leaving. Rain at home doesn’t necessarily change the rules where you’re camping.
You can still enjoy dinner outside and an evening under the stars. Just make sure your cooking setup matches the rules for your campsite.
