Arizona’s desert trails come with their share of hazards, but this is certainly one you don’t hear about every day.
A woman hiking near Bell Pass Trail in Scottsdale’s McDowell Mountains was struck in the head by a falling cactus Saturday morning, October 17.
According to the Scottsdale Fire Department, emergency crews responded shortly after 7 a.m. Rescuers traveled approximately two miles into steep terrain to reach the injured woman. Paramedics provided treatment on the trail before crews worked to transport her down the mountain.
Arizona’s Family subsequently reported that the woman was taken to a trauma center. Her condition and the circumstances surrounding the falling cactus have not yet been confirmed.
